History
For hundreds of years, Montgreenan Castle (also known as Montgrynen or Mountgrainen) was the seat of two noble Scottish families, first the Rosses and later the Cuninghames.
The building which occupies the site today is a handsome Georgian mansion boasting magnificent architectural features by Alexander 'Greek' Thompson. Built as a family home in 1817 for Dr Robert Glasgow the mansion house still retains an intimate and genial atmosphere which has become a rarity in an age of modern purpose-built hotels.
